Our technical measures for more ecological sustainability
Sustainability plays an important role in our company philosophy. Here you can find out where our energy comes from and what we do to use it as efficiently as possible. Geothermal energy
Geothermal energy
The first geothermal system with 10 geothermal probes was put into operation back in 2007, when the extension of the wellness area and the first swimming pool were realized. Already then we recognized the potential of this clean energy generation. With the new construction of the Altiana residence, we are now relying entirely on geothermal energy. For this purpose, a further 29 geothermal probes were drilled 125 meters deep into the ground. The picture shows one of the three heat pumps, with which we generate the equivalent of over 100,000 liters of oil every year. This covers our entire energy requirements for hot water, outdoor pools and heating, and we can also channel additional energy into the main house, La Ginabelle, to further reduce oil consumption. We only have to resort to heating oil at absolute peak times. As further heat probes are planned in the medium term, we will cover our entire energy requirements with CO2-neutral geothermal energy in the near future.

In summer, we use the geothermal system to keep the rooms and restaurants in the Altiana residence pleasantly cool in the high summer temperatures. To do this, the cycle is simply reversed. The heat is absorbed from the building and released into the ground. This heat return ensures that the floor retains enough heat in the long term and does not cool down. No running air conditioning systems, which generate disturbing noises and an unpleasant air flow. Of course, the geothermal system needs electricity, which we obtain from local Zermatt hydropower.
We also use the waste heat from the kitchen ventilation and feed it into the hot water. The waste heat generated during the preparation of your food is therefore used efficiently and sustainably.
Insulation
Insulation
The Altiana residence has the best insulation available at the time of construction in 2020 and has therefore been awarded the Minergie P standard.
In addition, all the windows in the first two houses were replaced in 2023. The new windows are triple-glazed and therefore keep the heat in better and also insulate sound better. And as a nice side effect, the new windows fit in better with the interior design of the rooms and suites.

Our three outdoor swimming pools are one of our unique selling propositions. As up to 100 guests swim here every day, the hygiene of the water plays a fundamental role. The individual water values are constantly monitored digitally and we use salt, which is broken down into caustic soda and odorless chlorine, to disinfect the bathing water.
